You will read four chapters in the Earth Science text. There will be NO worksheets. You will instead do the ONLINE Weather Modules from the University of Illinois.
Required: Chapter 14 (E.S.) pages 377 - 401. Online Module: Weather Forecasting
Required: Chapter 15 (E.S) pages 405 - 436. Online Module: Clouds and Precipitation
Required: Chapter 16 (E.S.) pages 441 - 459. Online Module: Forces and Winds
Required: Chapter 17 (E.S.) pages 463 - 482. Online Modules: Air Masses and Fronts, and Mid-latitude Cyclones.
Optional: Chapter 15 (Phys. Sci. softcover) pages 327 - 346: Radioactivity and Nuclear Power Plants

II. Demonstration Skills:
1. Observe weather over your region for one week. Note fronts and patterns (temperature, pressure, wind, dewpoint, precipitation). Produce one week series of NWS fax maps AND NWS forecast maps. (FOR YOUR ASSIGNED REGION in Arizona and Wyoming)
2. Assess geologic structure of your region (Arizona and Wyoming)for suitability as nuclear waste repository.
3. Determine current status of Yucca Mountain (geologic structure, political controversy).
4. Organize your group into working sections based on "Prairie Island Summary Sheets" hand out.
5. Complete Prairie Island Summary Sheets Report. Due 3 pm May 28. Include all data gathered by group. Final Report is due individually, although you are free to use any and all data saved to the server by your Prairie Island group.
